Welcome to gaming laptops

This blog is your portal to gaming and extreme laptops. Everything you ever wanted to know about gaming laptops shall be covered in my posts. Here I look at the most competitively priced laptops on the market and the MEANEST machines money can buy.

Hardware Requirements
It is vital to know the hardware requirements in a laptop for you to be able to play the latest DirectX 10 games on your laptop glitch free. It is not necessarily true that the most expensive laptop will be the best for gaming. The most important components in a gaming laptop are the graphics card, processor and the RAM.

Processor
The processor or Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the primary chip of the system that oversees all the other components of the system and has the most significant effect on performance and price. CPUs have advanced considerably over the last 5 to 10 years. A few years ago the clock speed was used to distinguish between processors. The higher the clock speed the faster the CPU. However processors are more advanced now and other aspects as well as clock speed must be analysed when choosing a CPU for gaming.

When choosing a processor take the processor's bus speed and L1 and L2 caches into account as well as the clock speed. The instruction bus determines how quickly instructions get from RAM to the processor. A slower bus speed processing time can be wasted for the next instruction to arrive. The L1 and L2 caches store frequently used instructions so that the computer can get them faster than it could fetch them from RAM. The L1 cache is faster than the L2 cache.

There are two mainstream manufacturers of processors, AMD and Intel. Currently Intel has the upper hand over AMD with its Dual Core 2 Duo range of processors. Intels Core 2 Duo processors are an excellent choice for those wishing to play the latest games on their laptops.
